Wall of Distinguished Alumni

Overview

The Sayville High School Wall of Distinguished Alumni honors a group of extraordinary individuals whose lives and careers reflect the values and far reaching aspirations embedded in the Sayville High School experience. Whether the individuals helped expand access to academic and medical excellence, build community, supported research for the common good, showed high performance in sports and in the arts, or showed leadership and creativity in other ways, these distinguished alumni have shaped our world for the better. These graduates inspire us all.

Nomination Criteria

This award recognizes alumni of Sayville High School who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their careers or in civic activities. All Sayville High School alumni, both living and dead, are eligible for consideration.

Candidates for the award will be nominated via a form located at the end of this page, based upon the following criteria:

1. Professional Achievement

This criterion focuses on the candidate’s accomplishments within their professional field.

It includes:

· Excellence and Distinction

The candidate should have a record of excellent performance and success in their profession, be it in sports, arts, medicine, education, jurisprudence, broadcasting, or in a host of other fields. This could be demonstrated through honors, honorary degrees, publications, patents, sports records, numerous artistic performances, or other forms of professional acknowledgement.

· Significant Impact

The candidate’s work should have made a notable difference in their professional field or community. This could involve innovative projects, influential research, artistic or sport performances or in leadership roles that have resulted in positive change.

2. Civic Engagement

This criterion evaluates the candidate’s involvement in activities that benefit society. It includes:

· Civic, Community, or Public Service Initiatives

The candidate should be or should have been actively engaged in efforts that improved the well-being of their community. This could include volunteering, organizing community events, or participating in local, state, or national government activities.

· Leadership and Commitment

The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitments to societal improvement through leadership roles in civic organizations, advocacy groups, or in public service activities. Their actions should reflect a dedication to making a positive impact on the community.

Honorees are added continually to the Wall as they are selected through a nomination process.  The individuals selected, both living and deceased, that are posted to the Wall represent Sayville High School graduates that have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their various careers and/or civic activities.  Below are our honorees to date.

You are encouraged to nominate deserving alumni who exemplify the values and excellence of Sayville High School.  The Sayville High School Wall of Distinguished Alumni recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves through career and civic activities. All alumni are eligible for consideration.  Honorees are selected by a committee composed of five members, including two representatives from the Sayville Alumni Association Board, one representative selected from the Sayville High School Alumni Association Class Liaisons, one representative selected from Sayville High School faculty and professional staff, and one representative from a civic/community organization. If needed, additional representatives will be added.

Please provide several additional supporting documents such as a resume/cv, newspaper, journal, or magazine articles, honor/awards received, etc..  

If a Google Search of a nominee produces significant biographical facts and statements about their accomplishments, please include that information.  

If an individual is deceased, please include obituary notices if those announcements outline an individual’s career and achievements.  

Also, if you refer to or include any website addresses, please make sure that they are operational.  

All this information will make it easier to write an article about a nominee’s exceptional career and/or civic achievements.
