We have.

For more than 100 years, the Sayville Alumni Association has been preserving the connections, memories, and stories of the people who passed through Sayville High School. But after a century of the Association’s work, there are still stories waiting to be uncovered.

Some are the stories of our alumni—people who accomplished remarkable things, lived fascinating lives, or simply left a lasting mark on their classmates and community.

Others are the stories of the teachers, principals, coaches, secretaries, and other staff members who helped shape generations of Sayville students. Perhaps you remember a favorite teacher whose story deserves to be told.

And some of these stories are already waiting for a History Detective.

We have specific stories of interest that need research. There are names that need to be followed, photographs whose subjects need to be identified, newspaper articles that raise more questions than answers, and pieces of Sayville history that are still missing a few chapters.

Sometimes all it takes is someone willing to search an old newspaper, examine a photograph, track down a family connection, find an old yearbook, or simply ask:

“What happened here?”

You don’t have to be a professional historian. You might be a researcher, writer, photographer, editor, genealogist, social-media sleuth—or simply someone who loves Sayville High School and the people who made its history.
