As we raise a glass to the final hours of 2025, we are filled with immense joy and pride to celebrate a truly monumental milestone. Today, December 31, Rose (Sanders) Leigh-Manuell, Class of 1936, marks her 107th birthday!

With this magnificent occasion, Rose solidifies her legacy not only as the oldest living alumnus of Sayville High School, but also as one of the very oldest and most cherished residents of our beloved town. She is a living bridge to our community’s history, a testament to its strength and spirit.

Think about it;  Rose’s graduation year was 1936. She has witnessed nearly the entire span of the 20th century and now over a quarter of the 21st, all through the unique lens of a life rooted in Sayville. From the echoes of school bells in the halls of a long-ago Sayville High to the evolving landscape of Sayville and West Sayville’s Streets and shorelines, Rose’s memories are a precious archive of our shared heritage.  She is still remembered from her many years at the Fish Market!

Her incredible journey inspires us all. It speaks of resilience, grace, and the enduring bonds of community.

Happy 107th Birthday, Rose! Thank you for being our shining landmark and an inspiration for generations!

Thank you to Frank Tanza, Class of 1998 for letting us know about Rose’s birthday today!
