Mary Noreen Radigan passed from this life in the early morning of January 13th after celebrating her 94th birthday on January 4th. Noreen was born in 1931 to Katherine (Barry) and August H. Englert of Glendale, Queens (both deceased), where she was raised with her sister Sr. Ann Englert of Satellite Beach, FL and her deceased brother August “Bud” Englert, Jr.
She attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY where she earned a degree in nursing. Noreen was the beloved wife of her husband James Joseph Radigan of Sayville, NY, who after forty years of marriage predeceased her in 1993.
Noreen was the matriarch to many, a mother of six children, a grandmother to eight, and a great-grandmother to five more. In addition to raising her family, Noreen was for many years the school nurse at Sayville High School. Noreen enjoyed a long and healthy retirement with her family and many friends, with whom she traveled extensively world-wide.
Noreen will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her deep Catholic faith, and her charm and wit. Those who knew Noreen will cherish the memory of her quiet company and counsel, often over a social cocktail, which for Noreen was always a short pour of scotch served over lots of ice and sipped for hours from a dainty stemmed glass, reflecting her unassuming elegance and humble grace.
Noreen is survived by five of her children: her daughter Mary Katherine of Larchmont, NY (William C Haney); her son Richard of San Diego, CA (Sara); her daughter Ann of Chatham, MA (James Azzinaro); her son Robert of New London, CT (Donna); and her daughter Christine of Sayville, NY (Harry White). Noreen was predeceased by her daughter Eileen Margaret of Ossining, NY (Fernando Polletta). Rest in peace Grandma Noreen.
We extend our sincere sympathies to Mary’s family and friends. A memorial page has been established and the Sayville Alumni Association will remember Mary every year on her birthday.
