The passing of Michael G. Westermann, Class of 1968.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Michael G. Westermann, age 75, and a resident of Bayport.  Michael was born October 9, 1949 and died on March 19, 2025.

Michael was a member of the Class of 1968.  He left SHS early to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, classmates, and teachers during this difficult time.

In memory of Michael, a special memorial page has been established, and the Sayville Alumni Association will honor him annually on his birthday. It is our hope that this tribute provides solace to all who knew and cherished her, ensuring that Michael’spirit remains alive in our hearts.

Michael G. Westermann, age 75, resident of Bayport died on March 19, 2025.

Michael was born in Bay Shore, New York and grew up in Sayville alongside four siblings. He attended Sayville High School where he met the love of his life, Mary at age 15. Following high school, Michael joined the Air Force and was deployed to Vietnam.

Michael and Mary married in 1971 and had three children over the next several years while living in Shirley. The Westermann family then moved to Bayport in the late 70’s and stayed there ever since. Michael had a career as a truck driver for Wonder Bread and was an avid outdoorsman.

He enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, golfing and boating. Above all, Michael will be remembered for his love for his family. Mary and his children were truly his heart and soul.

Michael is survived by his wife Mary, his children Michael, Colleen Erickson and her husband William, and Brian, and his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Abigail and Billy Erickson.

Family will receive visitors on Monday, March 24 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home 683 Montauk Highway, Bayport. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point. Interment to follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Sayville.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Tunnel to Towers or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Michael’s name.
