The passing of Maryellen Palumbo, Class of 1974.

The Sayville Alumni Association joins our extended community in expressing profound sorrow at the passing of Maryellen Palumbo, a cherished and lifelong member of our Sayville family.

Maryellen, a beloved graduate of the Class of 1974, was a daughter of Sayville in the truest sense. Her roots here ran deep, coming from a very large and well-known Sayville family, which made her passing a loss that resonates across generations of our community. Her vibrant presence was a thread woven into the very fabric of our town, making this moment one of shared mourning for many households.

Our deepest sympathies are with the entire Palumbo family—a pillar of our community—as well as Maryellen’s vast network of friends and her steadfast classmates from ’74. We mourn together the loss of such a radiant soul, whose light was dimmed far too soon.

To celebrate the beautiful and spirited life she lived, we invite all who knew Maryellen to view the moving tribute slide show hosted on the Maloney Funeral Home website. It serves as a poignant testament to the joy she carried, the warmth she extended, that defined her.

The collective heart of our Sayville community beats as one for all who hold Maryellen in their memory. In a town where connections run deep and stories are shared, may the breadth of these shared remembrances provide a unique strength and comfort, reminding us all of the enduring bonds that define us.

Maryellen will be profoundly missed by her extended family here at Sayville. To honor her enduring spirit and deep local legacy, the Alumni Association has established a dedicated memorial page in her name. Furthermore, we will commemorate Maryellen each year on her birthday January 12, ensuring her presence remains a cherished part of our community’s ongoing story. It is our sincere hope that this continued recognition offers a measure of solace to the many, many friends and relatives who knew and loved her.
