We are saddened to learn of the passing of Marie at her home in Westfield, NJ on Wednesday October 9, 2024.
Passing away at the age of 93, Marie leaves behind a legacy shaped by her deep love for reading and her lifelong dedication to volunteerism. Throughout her life, books were her constant companions, offering solace, adventure, and knowledge.
But it was her generous spirit that truly defined her. Marie spent countless hours volunteering, sharing her time and wisdom with others.
Her family, friends, and the many lives she touched in her community through her volunteer work will carry forward her legacy of kindness and a love for learning.

Mrs. Laessig and her husband, Henry Laessig, were residents of Westfield, NJ, since 1959. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for 75 years and served for six years as Vestryperson. She was President of the Episcopal Churchwomen – Evening Branch, and she ushered for several years. She enjoyed reading, and was a member of Friends of the Library, also serving on Books On Wheels.
During her working years she was Manager of the Town Book Store in Westfield. After retirement, she helped monthly at Grace’s Kitchen at Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield.
Mrs. Laessig was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. Marie was the beloved wife of the late: Henry Laessig IV. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, and is survived by her two sons, Henry and his wife Yoland and Andrew and his wife Donna, her granddaughters Lauren Laessig and her husband Adam Gramann and Alison and her husband Sean O’Connell, and her great-grandson, Benjamin Gramann, as well as nine beloved nieces and nephews.
Marie’s visitation will be on Tuesday October 15, 2024 from 9:30-10:30am at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield. Her graveside service will follow at 11AM Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.

We extend our sincere sympathies to Marie’s family and friends. A memorial page has been established and the Sayville Alumni Association will remember Marie every year on her birthday.
