In Memoriam: Jonny Ball, Class of 1972
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jonny Ball, a beloved member of the Sayville High School Class of 1972, in Cape Coral, Florida. Our hearts go out to Jonny’s family, friends, former classmates, and teachers during this difficult time. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jonny was widely admired as one of the Great South Bay’s most remarkable clammers—a true master of his craft. Those who worked alongside him, including his close friend Barry Verspoor, remember him as nothing short of legendary. His skill, dedication, and passion for clamming left an indelible mark on the community, and his legacy will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him best.
To honor Jonny’s memory, a memorial page has been created where friends and loved ones can share their condolences and fondest recollections. Additionally, the Sayville Alumni Association will commemorate Jonny each year on his birthday, ensuring that his spirit and contributions are never forgotten. We hope this tradition will bring comfort to all who cherished him, keeping his memory alive in the hearts of those he touched.
May Jonny rest in peace, and may his family and friends find solace in the love and admiration that surrounded him throughout his life.
“The waves may wash away his footprints from the shore, but never from our hearts.”
—The Sayville Alumni Association
