Garrett “Gary” Randolph Lacara passed peacefully on December 26, 2025. He was 71. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Mary Elizabeth Henderson, his daughters Katelyn Danielle Policastro, DeAnna Heather (Jonathan) Schena, and two granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister Sherie. He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Leah Lacara.

Gary earned his Bachelor’s Degree at New York University and earned his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University and went on to practice law in NY.

Gary was born in Sayville NY where he made lifelong friends, some of whom he remained close to his entire life. He grew up around the bays and beaches of Long Island where he learned to sail and surf – experiences that shaped his lifelong love of water and adventure. Although he was not a horse enthusiast, Gary could be found ring side at the horse shows to support his wife often volunteering where he made many friends in the Dressage community. Gary loved classic rock and could sing almost every lyric to countless songs on the many road trips he made to NY when he lived in Texas. He loved cars and driving finding joy and freedom on the open road with his dogs.

Gary was passionate about politics and his engaging personality allowed him to make friends wherever he went. Known by all as a true force of nature, he brought energy and warmth into every room. No matter what was happening in his own life, he would drop everything to help anyone in need always putting others first. Gary loved large family gatherings and loved his children and his wife’s family dearly.

With a recent move to Aiken SC, Gary wasted no time making new friends. He will be deeply missed.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday morning, January 2, 2025 at 11 o’clock at St Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken. In lieu of flowers, the family will greatly appreciate your contribution to the ALS research.
