Standing With Cheryl: A Call to Hope and Action

Fellow alum,

Our Sayville family has always stood together in times of need, and now one of our own is facing the fight of her life. Cheryl (Sunderland) Schroeder, Class of 1997, was recently diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the nerve cells, making everyday actions we take for granted—walking, talking, even breathing—incredibly difficult. But while this disease may weaken the body, it cannot touch the strength of the human spirit.

Cheryl is facing this challenge with immense bravery, supported by her loved ones. But the financial burden of ALS is overwhelming, covering everything from specialized medical equipment to home modifications and care.

This is where we, her Sayville family, can step in. We can be a source of tangible hope. A GoFundMe has been established to alleviate the financial stress so Cheryl and her family can focus on what truly matters: time together and her care.

Let’s surround Cheryl with the support that defines our community. Please consider donating and sharing this link widely:

Every single contribution is a message of hope. It tells Cheryl she is not alone in this fight. Together, we can help carry this burden and show the powerful compassion of the Sayville Alumni family.

Thank you for your generosity.  -Hal
