Seven in a Row! Sayville Girls Cross Country Wins Another County Championship
🏆 Seven in a row! The Sayville High School girls cross country team has done it again — on Thursday, November 5, at Sunken Meadow State Park, the Golden Flashes won their seventh consecutive Suffolk County Class B Championship.
It caps another remarkable fall for one of the finest programs in Sayville history. Just a week earlier, on October 27, the girls captured their sixth consecutive Division III Championship, and this is a program that has twice stood atop New York State — the Golden Flashes were New York State Class B champions in both 2022 and 2023.
Now they get their chance at another state title: the team races at the New York State Championships on Saturday, November 14, at Queensbury High School. Alumni everywhere — join us in wishing them well!
The boys ran strong, too. Sayville’s Jack Barry qualified individually for the State Championships, placing 8th at the county meet in 18:12.2 — he’ll represent the purple and gold at Queensbury as well. His teammates closed out a fine season at Sunken Meadow: Finnegan Neimeth (19:17.4), Jake Meittinis (19:56.1), Michael Iacobazzi (20:18.7), Colin Barry (20:22.6), Jayden Aurelio (20:41.8), and Mannix Stewart (21:15.7). The boys also placed 4th at the Division III Championships on October 27.
Congratulations to all our cross country runners, their coaches, and their families. 💜💛
