Bohemia, New York.

Dorothy W. Kroupa was born on June 9, 1919, in the quiet farming community of Bohemia, New York. Her parents, Winnie Edward Kroupa (1889–1962) and Agnes (Behounek) Kroupa (1892–1958), raised her alongside her siblings—Evelyn Rose (Kroupa) Stann (1917–1970), a Sayville High School alumna buried with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, and Louis Edward Kroupa (1915–1980), who remained in Bohemia until his death.

Dorothy’s life is a fading echo in local records. Her brother Louis’s 1980 obituary lists her as a surviving sister, confirming she was alive at age 60—but after that, the trail vanishes. Did she marry? Leave New York? Or, did she live out her days in obscurity, her story untold?

The lingering questions:

Where did Dorothy go after 1980?

Did she pass away, or could she—against all odds—still be living at 104?

Why is there no trace of her beside her parents and siblings in Bohemia Union Cemetery?

Her sister Evelyn rests among heroes in Arlington. Her brother Louis lies in the family plot. But Dorothy’s fate remains a mystery.

We call upon genealogists, local historians, and longtime Bohemia residents—did anyone know Dorothy? Did she move away, change her name, or leave behind descendants who might remember her?

Mary Ann Patricia (Deangelo) Skinner
Class of 1959

Mary Ann Patricia (Deangelo) Skinner

Class of 1959

Sayville, New York – The Class of 1959 seeks to uncover the final chapters of a classmate’s life.

Mary Ann Patricia DeAngelo, daughter of Joseph DeAngelo of Lumur Drive, was a bright presence in Sayville High School’s Class of 1959. Just a year after graduation, she exchanged vows with Richard Skinner in 1960 at the historic Sayville Methodist Church, with her sister Martha standing proudly as maid of honor. The newlyweds made their home at 49 Roosevelt Avenue, but beyond that, details of Mary Ann’s life fade into obscurity.

The Class of 1959 has confirmed her passing, yet critical pieces of her story remain missing:

When and where was Mary Ann born?

When and where did she pass away?

What happened in the years after her marriage?

Did she remain in Sayville, or did she move away? Were there children, a career, or later chapters left unrecorded?

We appeal to local historians, former neighbors, and anyone who might remember the DeAngelo or Skinner families.

The Class of 1959 wishes to honor Mary Ann with a memorial page and include her in their birthday remembrances—but first, her story must be pieced together.

If you have any knowledge of Mary Ann’s life—or clues to her birth and death—please come forward. Let’s ensure she takes her rightful place in Sayville’s history.
