Robert Paul Groh left Sayville High School in November 1942 at the age of 16 years and 10 months and enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

He served in the South Pacific during World War II. His service included the Medical Corps and underwater demolition duties. Paul was honorably discharged in February 1946.

He was readmitted to Sayville High in 1946 and graduated later that year!
