Sayville High School Class of 1967

The Sayville Alumni Association has lost another member of the Class of 1967. Michael D. Druhm, born November 20, 1949 in Patchogue, passed away on June 30, 2026, leaving behind a family and a community shaped by his gentle spirit.

Michael was the beloved husband of Jill and a devoted father to Amy, Connor (Paige), and Michael D. Druhm Jr. He was the proud grandfather of Sage and Faye, who brought him tremendous joy. He was the cherished brother of Kris Druhm (Shannon) and the late Charles Druhm, survived by his wife, Elizabeth Seltz.

For thirty-five years, Michael stood in front of classrooms teaching science, guiding generations of students with patience and kindness. But his life was never confined to the classroom. He was a lifelong outdoorsman — kayaking, fishing, windsurfing, and riding his beloved Kick-bike along the rail trails. Back in the 1970s, he and two friends even ran a windsurfing and ski business, sharing their love of adventure with others.

One of his favorite family traditions was the annual camping trip to the Delaware Water Gap, where he and his children spent countless hours kayaking together — memories his family will treasure forever.

Music was another of Michael’s great loves. He played Celtic whistles, and some of his most cherished moments were performing duets with his daughter Amy, who accompanied him on the violin — a beautiful reflection of the bond they shared.

A visitation was held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes in Port Jefferson Station. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association.

The Association thanks class historian Howard Berger, who promptly brought Michael’s passing to our attention — a service we deeply appreciate.
