Harry W. Zajicek, Class of 1934. A tragic death in 1935.

Harry W. Zajicek, Class of 1934

August 30, 1935.

The community of greater Sayville was shocked.   People could not believe the news.

A young, energetic, bright, pleasant, and aspiring youth had drowned.  How?  Why?

Harry was;

Highly experienced on the water.

A volunteer fireman with exceptional skills.

A brilliant student in high school.

Athletic and a valued member of the high school golf team.

Organized and the stage manager in high school for school plays.

Harry’s life was tragically, accidentally taken from his family, classmates, and the community of greater Sayville.  His obituary was beautifully crafted and presented here as a wonderful legacy for this young man’s impact.  It is provided courtesy of our hometown paper, The Suffolk County News.

Harry was laid to rest in the Zajicek family plot in

Bohemia Union Cemetery
Bohemia, Suffolk County, New York.

Requiescat
Matthew Arnold – 1822-1888

Strew on her roses, roses,
And never a spray of yew.
In quiet she reposes:
Ah! would that I did too.

Her mirth the world required:
She bathed it in smiles of glee.
But her heart was tired, tired,
And now they let her be.

Her life was turning, turning,
In mazes of heat and sound.
But for peace her soul was yearning,
And now peace laps her round.

Her cabin’d, ample Spirit,
It flutter’d and fail’d for breath.
To-night it doth inherit
The vasty hall of Death.
