Free Legal Help for Veterans and Their Families — Suffolk County Lawyers Step Up

The Sayville Alumni Association has always stood proudly behind our veterans and those still serving — and we are glad to pass along an offering that puts that gratitude into action.

Today, Friday, November 6, attorneys with the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Project gave their time and talents at a free legal clinic for veterans and their families, held at the Bar Association’s headquarters, 560 Wheeler Road in Hauppauge, in conjunction with Veterans Day and November’s National Military Family Month.

Volunteer attorneys from across Suffolk County offered free help in the areas veterans so often need: veterans’ and disability rights, family and matrimonial matters, trusts and estates, contracts, business law, and more. Joining them were the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency, United Veterans Beacon House, Angel Warriors, the Economic Opportunities Council of Suffolk, the Veterans Defense Program, the Town of Babylon, Calm Seas Psychotherapy, and former IRS agent Howard Silverman.

Suffolk County is home to the largest veterans population in the country — our neighbors, our classmates, our own alumni. As Bar Association Executive Director Cynthia Doerler put it, “For them, we need to do more than just thank them for their service.” We could not agree more.

Missed today’s clinic? Appointments for the Pro Bono Project’s veteran assistance were scheduled by email — if you or a veteran in your family could use a lawyer’s ear, reach out at vets@scba.org.

Please share this with a veteran or a military family who might need it. To every alumnus and neighbor who has worn the uniform, and to those serving today: the Sayville Alumni Association thanks you, salutes you, and stands with you — this Veterans Day and every day. 🇺🇸
