Theresa Ann Ficarra was a proud 1950 graduate of Sayville High School. She grew up in Lake Grove, the daughter of Frank and Anna Ficarra.
By 1960, when the Class of 1950 held its 10-year reunion, classmates diligently searched for several alumni who had fallen out of touch. Among those missing were May Mason of Bohemia, Merl Bridwell of Lake Ronkonkoma, and Theresa Ficarra of Lake Grove.
For more than six decades, Theresa’s whereabouts remained a mystery. But recently, through the efforts of the Alumni Association’s Historians Committee, we have been able to piece together part of her story.
We learned that Theresa married John Paul Giordano of Brooklyn, NY. Tragically, John passed away in 1967 at the young age of 38, leaving Theresa to raise their three daughters—Angela, Janine, and Lisa—in Scottsdale, Arizona. Theresa herself passed away about five years ago, nearly 75 years after her Sayville graduation.
Just this past week, we were able to connect with Theresa’s daughter Angela, who still lives in Arizona. We hope to learn more about Theresa’s life from her family and share those memories with our alumni community.
And perhaps most meaningful of all—tomorrow, September 2nd, is Theresa’s birthday! For the first time, we are able to honor and celebrate her here at SayvilleAlumni.org and on our Facebook page.
Happy Heavenly Birthday, Theresa. You will always be remembered as part of the Sayville Alumni family!
