Rev. Patrick J. Manton, Class of 1901, was one of the many Manton family of Lakeland Ave., who graduated from Sayville High School.

As noted above, during WWI, Rev. Manton spent time on the Lapland, pictured to the right.  On October 29, 1914 the Lapland began the Liverpool-New York City crossings under the British flag while under charter to Cunard Line. In April 1917 she was mined off the Mersey Bar Lightship, but managed to reach Liverpool and in June 1917 she was requisitioned and converted to a troopship.
