Our beloved Sayville High Teacher and Principal Harold Limouze was born in Huntington Station, NY. He held an MA in Science Education from Columbia University and pursued graduate studies in school administration at Hofstra University.
He served in the United States Army with the 94th Chemical Mortar Battalion in the European Theatre. During this time he received a bronze star for meritorious service in combat.
He joined the Sayville School District as a science teacher at the High School, and was named as the first Assistant Principal in 1955 and appointed Principal in 1967, a position he held until his retirement in 1975.
Mr. Limouze was a member of the School Administrators Association of New York and was given a Jenkins Memorial Life Membership by the Sayville P.T.A. for his dedication to youth. In retirement, Harold held the position of Sayville School District treasurer (25 years) and Sayville Library treasurer for over 35 years.
For over 13 years he served on the board of trustees of the Long Island Maritime Museum and volunteered as a visiting docent speaking to children in schools around Suffolk County. This program helped lead to New York’s approval of a charter for the museum.
Mr. Limouze was always active in St. John’s Lutheran Church, serving over 25 years as a teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School, as a member of the chancel choir for 30 years and also served on the altar guild.
Mr. Limouze was past president of the Sayville Rotary Club and District Governor of Rotary International in charge of all Suffolk County Clubs. In Rotary he held perfect attendance for 47 years and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Sayville Club.
