Well, let’s see how you react to this quiz today! Referring specifically to Sayville High School in a short speech, can anyone guess who stated the following words, and when? “The high school is the people’s college, and the high school of today is better than the college of Jefferson’s day. Remember that Sayville is the best town on earth! Be loyal to your town, your home, and your school. Above all live up to your highest ideals.”

As many are aware, a Sayville High School project spearheaded by principal Ron Hoffer, referred to as the “wall of honor”, will display media honoring al Sayville alumni who served in the military. Many volunteers are involved and the initiative is progressing in a most positive direction. Just to wet your appetites, here is a Alumni History Mystery or two, for you. Can you name the Sayville Alumnus who became a US Navy Ensign in WWII and survived the sinking of his ship in the Atlantic Ocean with only minor injuries? If that is not enough for you, then can you name his brother, also a Sayville High Alumnus, who was taken prisoner by the Germans while fighting with the infantry in France?
