A New Name on the Wall: Dr. Glenn DuBois, Class of 1971
Alumni, come see who’s new on the Wall! The Sayville Alumni Association is proud to announce the newest member of our Wall of Distinguished Alumni: Dr. Glenn DuBois, Sayville High School Class of 1971 — educator and Chancellor Emeritus of Virginia’s Community Colleges.

Glenn’s story starts right here: born in Brooklyn, he moved to Sayville at age seven and graduated from Sayville High in 1971. His own education began at a community college — SUNY Farmingdale — and he never forgot what that open door meant. He spent the next 45 years holding it open for others.
The summit of that career: in 2001, Dr. DuBois became the eighth Chancellor of Virginia’s Community College System — 23 colleges on 40 campuses across the Commonwealth. Over his 21 years as Chancellor, more than 650,000 Virginians earned a degree, certificate, or credential, and more than 250,000 students transferred on to four-year universities, many through transfer agreements and grant programs he created.
Before Virginia, he led New Hampshire’s community technical college system as Commissioner and CEO, directed the community colleges of the SUNY system, and taught and chaired criminal justice at North Shore Community College in Massachusetts while earning his Ph.D. at UMass Amherst. Along the way he founded Virginia’s Great Expectations program, which pairs young people who have been in foster care with coaches who help them succeed in college — and he championed keeping community college affordable for the families who need it most.
When he retired, the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates honored him with a joint resolution of praise. He and his wife, Carol, have three children and two granddaughters — and, true to form, this avid cyclist has pedaled around the eastern United States raising funds for community projects.
Come see for yourself — read Dr. DuBois’s full profile on our Wall of Distinguished Alumni, and join us in congratulating a Sayville graduate who changed the odds for hundreds of thousands of students. Welcome to the Wall, Dr. DuBois!
