After we shared the news of Andrew Howe’s passing, we heard from Marian Mosel, who was an extremely close friend of Andrew’s for many, many years. She asked us to share her remembrance with the Sayville community.

Marian and Andrew spent a great deal of time together when she lived in Patchogue Village. She moved to Tennessee more than nine years ago, but the distance never changed the closeness they shared — they stayed in constant contact through the years.

Andrew, she told us, never liked to speak about anything in a negative way, including his health. It was not until January of 2025 that he finally told her about an illness he had already been struggling with for nearly a year — severe digestive issues that required IVs, blood, and medications. He had grown terribly thin, but he slowly improved through 2025, and then never spoke of it again.

Marian had been trying to reach Andrew for three weeks. When she still could not reach him on his birthday, she went online — and found his memoriam on our website.

Marian is hoping to learn more about Andrew’s final days — whether he died peacefully, and whether his brother Brian was with him. Andrew had been working to help Brian get set up to take care of himself.
