Today our Historians celebrate Erich Wilbert Tietze, Class of 1936.

When Erich Wilbert Tietze was born on July 12, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York, his father, Erich, was 30 and his mother, Florence, was 21. He married Fannie Mae “Fan” Woolley on October 31, 1943, in Kingman, Arizona.

They had two children during their marriage, Erich O. Tietze (SHS Class of 1963) and Clyde William Tietze (SHS Class of 1965).

Erich died on September 25, 1990, in Portales, New Mexico, at the age of 72, and was buried there in Portales Cemetery

In Sayville, he lived at 64 Cleveland Avenue.

Erich was the son of Erich August Johanes Tietze (born in Germany, buried in Union Cemetery, Sayville) and Florence Maria Carolina Broesler Tietze (born Brooklyn, NY, and also buried in Union Cemetery. Sayville).

Erich served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. His military service is chronicled in the book “Islip town’s World War II effort”.

A granddaughter left a virtual flower on his findagrave memorial page.

Our Historians researched Erich and he is now added to our birthday remembrances, and virtual cemeteries and will be added to the Sayville HS wall of honor; we will remember Erich annually on his birthday!

A very special thank you to Mr. Erick Baumeister of Auburn, California who researched Erich for us!
