The Sayville Alumni Association is something like a cat with many lives. It was revived several times over the last 100 years and most recently, by David Stang in 2014.

By 2017, David had become rather disillusioned, as there was minimal interest or involvement. Prompted by Judith (Levy) Leipold, we put our heads together and tried many new approaches to breathe some new life into it. Tragically, David passed away in 2018. The website continued to evolve with new features and our Facebook page has grown from about 40 likes to 800.

85 years ago in the Suffolk County news on July 24, 1936, we can see that this was a very active association. Mid-Summer dances and lots of volunteers. An orchestra from a broadcast company in New York City!

Today, we are just a handful of volunteers, almost entirely behind the scenes. Times have changed and there is probably no interest in a mid-summer dance.

Yet, we do have some needs… for example, we need a treasurer. We only have a very small account to take care of some internet expenses. Could that be you? Other organizations seem to find people willing to be the association treasurer, but this has been very difficult. It would probably take less than an hour or two a year.

We would love to have more contributing admins on Facebook and desperately need someone versed in WordPress to serve as an assistant webmaster to myself. We’d love more contributing bloggers, writers, and photographers. Could that be you?

It would be nice to have alumni representatives of various professions, to serve as a resource for students to talk to.

We need class liaisons for every class year and could use more people willing to have some fun with historical research. Anyway, enough said…
