We are so sorry to let you know about the passing of Tracee (Smith) Jasuta, a member of the Class of 1977, on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
In the constellation of memories, Tracee remains a brilliant celestial beacon. She earned her Bachelors Degree at CW Post and her Masters at Dowling College. She was an elementary school teacher in the William Floyd School District for 32 years before retiring in 2014.
Tracee is survived by her husband, Robert, her three sons, Justin and his wife Stephanie, Bryan, and Derek, as well as her sister, Debbie Smith Emery, and her husband Lawrence. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Beverly Smith, and by her brother, Chad Smith, and a loving extended family.
The tragic loss of Tracee, a beloved SHS alumna and elementary school teacher evokes a profound sorrow that envelops the heart. We now face a landscape of memories, where each one is a reminder of the depth of the bond shared. The grief often feels like a relentless wave, crashing against the shore of life with the force of what was and what can never be again. It’s a silent echo of laughter and love that once filled the rooms, now replaced by a quiet absence.
Yet, in this grief, there is also a testament to the strength of love. As time passes, grief for the loss of Tracee may not disappear, but it transforms, allowing moments of peace and acceptance to grow amidst the sorrow, honoring the enduring impact of the loved one lost to cancer.
In memory of Tracee, a memorial page will be created. The Sayville Alumni Association will honor Tracee’s memory by commemorating her yearly birthday. We hope this annual remembrance will provide solace to those fortunate enough to know and love her.
