This beautiful obituary below has been published and provided to the alumni association by Robert’s sister Judith (Levy) Leipold;

“Robert Victor Levy of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after a battle with lung cancer. He was born in New York City, on June 9, 1944, three days after the victorious D-Day Normandy landing. Robert was warm and outgoing, with a positive outlook on life and a fantastic sense of humor. He wore his heart on his sleeve and let his wife, children and grandchildren know daily how much he loved them. He was a mensch in every sense of the word. Robert graduated from Sayville High School, class of ’62 and attended the Culinary Institute of America. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Ann Levy, parents, Leon and Lucille Levy and brother, Elliot Levy. He is survived by his beloved bride of 56 years, Ruth Gutowsky Levy, daughter Jessica (David) Goldberg, grandchildren Ari and Jack Goldberg, sister Judith (Paul) Leipold, sister-in-law Joan Hirsch and many loved nieces and nephews.

Although unable to serve in the US military due to physical injuries, he remained a devoted patriot supporting all branches of the military throughout his life. Robert was a devout member of the Blue Lodge for over 40 years, achieving the esteemed rank of 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed helping new members learn rites and progress through the degrees of freemasonry.

His love of the arts and world travel fueled his passion for theater, opera, and cultural experiences. He and his wife were patrons of many local theater companies in Sarasota. Together, they enjoyed exploring domestic and global destinations.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the ACLU in Robert’s memory.”
