It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Robert’s passing. Born July 9, 1955, he departed this life on May 24, 2026.

Robert Szuflada, 70, of West Babylon, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted family.
Robert was the cherished husband of Donna Szuflada, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. He was a loving father to LeeAnn, Robert Jr., and Erin Lutgens and her husband Richard, and took tremendous pride in his role as grandfather to Gabriella, Richard Jr., Joseph, Natalee, and Stephen—each of whom brought him endless joy and filled his heart with pride.
He is survived by his loving mother, Anna Szuflada, and his dear brother, Michael Szuflada. Robert was reunited in eternity with his father, John Szuflada; his brother, John Szuflada; and his sisters, Carol Straley and Terry Szuflada, who preceded him in death.
A man of hard work and simple pleasures, Robert spent a portion of his life as a clammer—a calling that reflected his deep love for the ocean, boats, and life on the water. In his downtime, he could often be found riding motorcycles, strumming his guitar, or listening to the legendary sounds of Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher, whose music he greatly admired.
Yet what mattered most to Robert was family. His greatest happiness came from watching his children and grandchildren grow, cheering loudly from the sidelines at their sports games, and celebrating every milestone, big or small. He was a man of loyalty, humor, and quiet strength—qualities that made him a rock for those who were fortunate enough to be close to him.
Robert’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave and the legacy he built will never fade.
A memorial page has been established to honor and celebrate Robert’s life. We invite all who knew him to visit, share memories, and leave tributes that reflect the impact he had on so many.
In recognition of his enduring legacy, the Sayville Alumni Association will observe his birthday, July 9th, each year as a day of remembrance. We hope this ongoing tribute, along with the shared stories and reflections of those whose lives he touched, will bring comfort and solace to his family and friends in the years to come. May the memory of Robert continue to be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
