The passing of Raymond Jackson, Class of 1989 in 2001.

We are deeply grateful to Jason Cerovac (’91) for bringing to our attention the passing of Raymundo Wesley “Ray” Jackson, Class of 1989, which occurred back on November 8, 2021.

When Jason reached out to us about Ray, he shared:
“Ray and I lost touch in the late ’90s. At some point, I tried to look up his name and came across the obituary—sad to say the least. He had a good heart and a kind ear.”

Those words, a good heart and a kind ear” are especially meaningful when we consider Ray’s calling as a librarian. In that role, he spent his life not only organizing knowledge but also offering quiet patience, gentle guidance, and a welcoming presence to anyone who walked through the doors. It is no surprise that those who knew him remember his warmth as much as his intellect.

While this news arrives with sadness, we truly appreciate Jason’s thoughtfulness in letting us know. It is not uncommon for an alum’s passing to go unnoticed by us, especially when they have moved away from the area over the years.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Ray’s family, friends, classmates, and also his colleagues up in New Paltz, NY, where he served his community so faithfully.  We would appreciate information on Ray’s family if anyone has that to share with us.

An obituary was published by Hudson Valley One Staff on November 15, 2021, which you can view via the link provided below.

A memorial page has been created in Ray’s honor.

The Sayville Alumni Association will remember Ray annually on his birthday, August 5, a small but lasting tribute, much like the quiet, lasting impact a good librarian leaves on every life they touch. We hope this remembrance offers comfort and solace to all who knew and loved him.
