During this very challenging time, our hearts go out to Maura’s family, friends, teachers and colleagues.  Maura was only 57 years of age.

Thank you to Martin Keane and also Ginger Farrell for alerting us to Maura’s passing.  A beautiful obituary was published by our friends at Raynor and D’Andrea Funeral Homes which is copied below for your convenience;

Maura Durkin, 57, of Sayville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10th surrounded by her loving family.

Maura was a graduate of Sayville High School and Stony Brook University. She was a social worker for over 20 years where she advocated for others. Maura was an empathetic mentor and was a true believer in recovery.

Maura loved celebrations and was a generous and thoughtful giver of gifts. She had a passion for fashion and was often the best dressed at any occasion. She was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music and loved going to concerts and movies with her friends. The Breakfast Club was her true favorite. Summer weekends were spent on Fire Island. Maura adored animals, especially her cat Bailey.

Spending time with Maura was magical, she was witty and fun to be around. She made friends easily and she never met a person she could not instantly have a meaningful conversation with. Her friendships were genuine. Many of her grade school and high school friends remained constant throughout her life. Maura’s closest friends and family were most recently true allies of her health, care, comfort, and voice. Her family would move mountains for her. Maura was courageous and faced challenges with dignity and grace. She is now at peace and in heaven with her devoted father, Jack Durkin.

Maura is survived by her mother Pat Durkin, her brother JP Durkin and his wife Dorothy, her brother Michael Durkin, her sister Eileen McEneny and her husband Tim and her niece and nephews, Rebecca Durkin and her fiancé Ian Cathcart, John Durkin and his fiancé Devyn Auxier and Timmy McEneny.
