Dr. Carl Steve Dombrowski, a resident of Sayville for 52 years, passed away on February 19, 2023. Carl has an undergraduate degree in biology from Jersey City State University, a Masters in chemistry from Rutgers University, a masters in science education from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in biophysics from St. John’s University. Carl worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory where he conducted nuclear medicine research on bone cancer publishing more than two dozen articles. Given his extensive science education and training he received several offers to pursue an academic and even a medical career but did not wish to uproot his family. Instead, he joined the science faculty at Sayville Public Schools in the early 1970s where he taught honors biology, chemistry, and physics.  He was a member of The New York State Union of Teachers and The New York Academy of Science. To his last breath Carl was a selfless and devoted husband, father, and grandfather putting his family above all other concerns. 

He is survived by his children, Laurie Curcio, and her husband John, Jennifer Kolinek, Dr. Stefan Dombrowski, and his wife Dr. Deborah Dombrowski, and Melissa Ruffler, his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jason, John, Jesse, David, Grace, Kayla, Kevin, Maxwell, and Henry, and his great grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Johnny IV, Jaelle, Aniah, Sonny, Ella, Faith, and Joshua. Carl is predeceased by his wife MaryLee.

Visitation- Friday February 24, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at our West Sayville Funeral Home, 245 Main St.

Funeral Mass- Saturday February 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow R.C. Church, Blue Point
