We are saddened to share the passing of Joyce M. McCarthy, wife of retired guidance counselor (Sonderling) Gerard “Jerry” McCarthy and mother-in-law of Brentwood Teachers Association President Kevin W. Coyne Jr.
Joyce and Gerard met as first-year teachers at Brentwood HS in the mid-1960s. Gerard went on to complete nearly 40 years of service for the Brentwood school district.
Following the birth of her daughters, Joyce finished a 30+ year career as a business and then guidance counselor at Sayville HS.
Joyce is survived by her husband Gerard, daughter Heather Cattabriga and son-in-law Brian (Centerville, Mass), daughter Kristen McCarthy-Coyne, Kevin, four grandchildren, Jon, Nick, Connor, Kellan, and three sisters, Ellen, Carole, Rita and two brothers William and Michael.
Due to the current COVID-19 limitations, the family is in the process of planning a memorial service at a later date and time.
