Our “History Mystery” from August 14, 2019 is solved! (Mary Carolyn Carlisle, Class of 1956)

The mystery was solved courtesy of Mary’s brother Stephen Carlisle (SHS Class of 1959). Thank you, Stephen!

Mary was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 30th, 1938, and moved with her family to Oakdale in 1942. She graduated from Sayville High in 1956. She had an older sister, Nancy (class of ’54), and a younger brother, Stephen, (class of ’59). She and Fred Maasch married in 1956 and had three sons and two daughters. The couple divorced about 1984.

Mary later married Ed Schwaner (Sayville High Class of ’52). After a fifteen-year battle with breast cancer, Mary died peacefully at their home in Bayport on June 17th, 2000. Mary is buried in Washington Memorial Park in Mt. Sinai.

    Sometimes, it’s very difficult to find information. So, we tried this “History Mystery” posting idea and it has been successful It’s very exciting to have a mystery solved! It usually allows us to set-up an annually repeating birthday remembrance. Thanks again to Stephen Carlisle (Class of 1959) for taking the time to contact us and solve this mystery!
