When Northam Warren Collins was born on August 17, 1927, in Sayville, New York, his father, William, was 39 and his mother, Isabella, was 40. He had two brothers and two sisters.

We start out with his senior photo from Sayville High School.

In elementary school, Warren was a “Principal Editor” of the elementary school publication titled “Oyster Bed”.   We sure wish we had a better version of this 1940 photo, but are grateful for what we do have, once again thanks to the Suffolk County News!

In his teen years, Warren was a very active Boy Scout with Sayville Troop 16.  In this 1941 article, his name appears five times.  He later became an Assistant Scout Master.

Warren was an active member of the Sayville rifle Club, as noted in this 1942 article.  Later in 1942, Warren and other high school boys helped build a new rifle range in the basement of the old elementary school.

Warren marches at the front of the 1943 Decoration Day parade representing the Boy Scouts as part of the “Colors and Guard”.
