Sayville History Splash; This Sayville High classroom picture is the work of Mavis (Hall) Abernathy, Class of 1939. Mavis was born December 24, 1920, in West Sayville, Suffolk County, New York.
After high school, she became a student at Mclane Art school in New York. In 1944 joined the United States Navy WAVES and served 19 months in Washington DC as a draftsman in the Hydrographic Department. We will talk more about Mavis in a subsequent posting.
