I don’t know if it even had a name then but today it is known worldwide as “Sudoku”!
Remembering an interesting high school teacher can bring immense joy, as these educators often leave a lasting impact on our lives. Their unique teaching methods, enthusiasm for the subject, and ability to connect with students transform ordinary lessons into memorable experiences.
Whether it was their quirky sense of humor, innovative projects, or the way they made complex topics accessible, these teachers fostered a love for learning and inspired curiosity.
Recalling their encouragement and support, the laughter shared in class, and the moments of enlightenment reminds us that learning can be a learning adventure… an endless journey!
Recently, Bernice Lovell asked about Mr. Laurier Begnoche, a Navy Veteran of WWII, who served us as the principal of Sayville Junior High for many years and was a teacher and a guidance counselor before that. In follow-up, Judith Levy, Class of 63 recently submitted this very nice memory of Mr. Begnoche and the last year at “Old 88”.
A favorite “old 88” memory.
In 1957 Mr. Begnoche was my homeroom teacher.
Between morning announcements he taught us a math “game”.
I don’t know if it even had a name then but today it is known worldwide as “Sudoku”!
I think that was the last year “Old 88” was occupied as Sayville Junior High School.
