Our Sayville Alumni Association’s “Endless Waves” short biography Series now presents for you from the heart of Long Island’s Czech-American enclave in Bohemia to the frontiers of the American Space Race, the story of Gustav Blazek Jr. (1931–2018)., Class of 1949. 

It’s a journey of heritage, ingenuity, and service. A gifted aerospace and microwave engineer at Airborne Instruments Laboratory (AIL), Gustav helped design the precision radar landing systems that brought NASA’s Space Shuttles safely back to Earth—all while staying true to his lifelong passions as an avid ham radio operator (K2GDC) and devoted community member in Stony Brook.
