In his teen years, Warren was a very active Boy Scout with Sayville Troop 16.  In this 1941 article, his name appears five times.  He later became an Assistant Scout Master.

Warren was an active member of the Sayville rifle Club, as noted in this 1942 article.  Later in 1942, Warren and other high school boys helped build a new rifle range in the basement of the old elementary school.

Warren marches at the front of the 1943 Decoration Day parade representing the Boy Scouts as part of the “Colors and Guard”.
