SHS class of 1925 had a graduate listed in the Suffolk County News as Gene D. Lafferrandre. Finding information has been difficult.

Janet (Donadio) Cozza of our historian’s committee accepted the challenge of trying to find some information about Gene. We were especially interested in trying to find Gene’s birthday.

Janet’s extensive on-line research of multiple genealogy sources and newspapers eventually solved the puzzle. Gene was not a man’s name; rather, it was the nickname of Eugenia D. Lafferrandre, daughter of William F. and Maria E. Lafferrandre. ”

Gene was a well known Sayville soprano soloist and lived on Candee Ave. She regularly sang at weddings, in various church programs and with the Sayville Christian Endeavor Society, whose group’s picture appeared in the New York Times in 1929. Gene was also a regular participant in community theatre. Gene married George H. Corston and they had one son, William.

Thank you Janet for your tenacious “above and beyond” efforts in solving this mystery!
