Join the Sayville Library, Sayville Alumni Association, Sayville Historical Society, and Sayville Schools on Zoom as we talk with Ms. Enid Burton Jones, SHS 42.
Ms. Jones is a 1942 graduate of Sayville High School and the only African American student from her class. Ms. Jones is the sister of Alton Burton, another Sayville Alumnus who was a Tuskegee Airman and the chief engineer for the Twin Towers.
Ms. Jones and her family grew up in a time of segregation. Despite this, Ms. Jones went on to earn her Master’s degree in Administration. She also rose up the ranks in the Air Force to become the Deputy Chief of Contract Management. This position spanned all the way from San Diego to Seattle!
Ms. Enid Burton Jones was a force of nature. She was the “first” warranted female contracting officer, the “first” female corporate administrative contracting officer, and the first female/black chief of contracts.
Join moderator Hal G. Brown, Director of the Sayville Alumni Association, and Dr. James Bertsch as co-moderator for what promises to be a meaningful walk through African American History as told from one Sayville alumnus’ life experience.
