Sayville History Splash; Swettman, Fisher, Witte, Brown and Rhodes.

Our history splash today is really more than a splash.  It’s many Great South Bay waves!    While researching some of the Swettman family alumni, I found it interesting how many of the family married into other Sayville Alumni families.  These included Fisher, Witte, Brown, and Rhodes.

looking at the Swetman family for just a minute, the Dad was Charles D. Swettman, born on April 13, 1865, in Germany.  Charles was the son of Katherine and Henry. He married Eva Wissel in 1892. They had nine children in 17 years. He died on May 9, 1933, in Sayville, New York, at the age of 68 and is buried in Union Cemetery.

The Mom, Eva (Wissel) Swettmand was born in 1868 in Germany.  She died on August 25, 1958, in Sayville, New York, at the age of 90 and is buried in Union Cemetery.

Here are several news clippings, mostly obituaries from our great hometown newspaper — The Suffolk County News.  There is tremendous history in these clippings!

I am hoping this posting prompts many enjoyable remembrances to be posted here from their descendants, colleagues, and friends.
