High school seniors can do a very good job in finding resources to fund them in their future studies, but the scholarships they can get are not restricted to their tomorrow. They can also win prizes to help them financially in their today. There are especially many essay competitions available to high school seniors that bring not only the honor of winning a prize, but also cash money. The prizes are not only given to essays written on general topics, or on a topic in connection with a literary piece. High school students who have experienced a hardship depending on their family history can also make use of these solemn events in special essay contests. An example is the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship. By writing an essay related to Alzheimer, you will get a chance not only to win an award of $5,000, but also to raise awareness on this topic, and make people understand the difficulties people with Alzheimer and the immediate environment of these people are faced with. Similarly, the Holocaust Remembrance Project aims at keeping the memories of the Holocaust alive and passing them on to the future generations. Awards in this project begin at $2,500.

You may also get an award by not writing an essay, but working as an intern even before you start your undergraduate studies. Bank of America, for instance, offers an 8-week internship program to high school juniors and seniors and students get paid at varying degrees. Another, and more interesting scholarship scheme is for those high school seniors who are capable of developing a new software. You Can Make a Difference Scholarship awards projects that can benefit the community at a rate of $5,000 per proposal.
