Update on protecting Brookside County Park across Brook St. from from Sayville High

James Bertsch of the Sayville Schoolboard writes;

“I’m writing to thank Mr. Philip Berdolt, Mr. Dodd Amrhein, Mr. Richard Martin and Mr. Don McKay of the Suffolk County Parks Department. The Parks Department, which is located in West Sayville, have stepped up to protect Brookside County Park near the high school in Sayville from vandals.

Brookside was the residence of famed local architect, Isaac Henry Green, Jr., whose work is on the National Park Service’s Register of Historic Places.

Sadly vandalism on the property has been escalating for years, that is, until the Parks Department got involved. Still vulnerable, the Parks Department is working to help the property’s stewards–the Great South Bay Audobon Society– properly look after this treasured property.

Isaac Green designed Sayville’s beautiful historic churches, including St. Anns, the Congregational Church and the Methodist Church. “Green homes” are located throughout Sayville. Brookside County Park itself is precious, with some vegetation dating back to prehistoric times. Thank you Mr. Amrhein and Mr. McKay and the entire Suffolk County Parks Department for your commitment.
