Sayville History Splash; 1929 SHS class pin and ring of Rose Augusta Wachlin
Here is a nice photograph of the 1929 SHS class pin and ring of Rose Augusta Wachlin (August 18, 1911 – July 11, 1961).
Rose was the tenth of twelve children of August and Rosabelle Oakley Wachlin and the first to graduate. Those before her had to go to work, married, or died before graduation. Rose married Henry Jacke in St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Sayville, June 1947. She and Henry worked for Republic Aviation Corporation.
Rose died at the same home she was born in — 87 Lakeland Ave., following a lengthy illness. At the time of her death, Rose was survived by her husband, two brothers, Losee Wachlin of Fire Island, and Robert E. Wachlin of Blue Point, and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Stochl and. Mrs. Henry Zdenek, both of Bohemia, Mrs. John Noonan and Miss Evelyn Wachlin, both of Sayville. Photograph and most information courtesy of Steven Wachlin, Class of 1966.
