The passing of Lars Eric “Ric” Larson, Class of 1967. SHS Pole Vault Champion!
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Lars Eric “Ric” Larson, a distinguished member of the Class of 1967 and a champion pole vaulter at SHS.
Our heartfelt condolences to Ric’s family, friends, and former classmates.
In 1967, as part of the Sayville High Varsity Track team, Ric achieved a remarkable pole vault of 12′ 9-1/4″, setting a school record that had previously remained unbroken for 34 years.
Ric’s sister, Marta (Class of 1969), kindly shared the following details:
Ric was born on August 12, 1949, in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Lars W. and Lillian Larson and is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly and Victoria, as well as his sister, Marta (Larson) Kane.
Ric spent his entire life on Long Island, where he thrived as a self-employed individual, residing in Wading River. He was a passionate dog lover and a dedicated father.
A memorial page has been created in Ric’s honor, and the Sayville Alumni Association will commemorate him annually on his birthday. We hope that this remembrance will provide solace to those who cherished him.
We extend our gratitude to Ric’s sister, Marta (Larson) Kane, Class of 1969, for her invaluable support, and to Howard Berger, Class of 1967, for informing us of Ric’s passing.
