The Murphy Funeral Home 95 S. Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, OH, Phone: (440) 247-3400 prepared a beautiful obituary, as follows;
Charles Richard Horvath, 88, died peacefully while surrounded by family on June 30, 2024, in Chagrin Falls, OH, where he resided for the last year of his life.
Born October 24, 1935, in New York, New York, Charlie was the third child of Karoly and Elizabeth (Demko) Horvath and grew up in Ronkonkoma, New York. He graduated from Sayville High School in 1953 and then served in the U.S. Navy, based in Norfolk, VA. It was in nearby Washington, DC, that he met Arlene J. Langley, whom he wed in 1958.
Charlie was a master stone mason who learned the craft from his immigrant father, Karoly (Charles, in Hungarian), and plied his trade as Charles R. Horvath & Sons for twenty-five years. He finished his career as Clerk of the Works for the County of Suffolk, New York, supervising large construction projects including the new county courthouse, of which he was most proud. He retired in 1995.
Charlie and Arlene raised their three children in the house he built himself in Sayville, New York, where he was active in numerous church and community volunteer activities including Meals on Wheels, and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Upon retirement, Charlie and Arlene moved to Shaftsbury, Vermont, to enjoy their golden years at the foot of the Green Mountains.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene, and his children Charlene Leitner (Peter) and Wayne (Maria), in addition to four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Brian Charles Horvath, in 1995.
Following a private funeral service, Charlie will be interred at Munn Cemetery, Newbury Township, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Threshold Choir,
