It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Barbara (Peterson) Whittall, a member of the Class of 1973, in Long Island Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer on April 26, 2024. The Robertaccio Funeral Home, located at 85 Medford Ave, Patchogue, NY, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Barbara’s neice Kristen, has kindly shared an obituary with us (see below).

In memory of Barbara, a memorial page has been created. We would like to express our deepest sympathies to Barbara’s family, friends, and classmates during this difficult time.

The Sayville Alumni Association will honor Barbara’s memory by commemorating her birthday each year. We hope that this annual remembrance will provide some solace to those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Barbara (Peterson) Whittall, 69, who resided in Patchogue, NY for the last 30 years passed away April 26, 2024, in Long Island Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 6, 1955 in Bayshore, NY and raised in Sayville, NY she was a daughter of the late Francis “Frank” and Marie Virginia “Ginny” (Cowhig) Peterson.

Survived by her loving children, Colleen (Matthew) Ellithorpe of Altamonte Springs, FL and Matthew (Lauren) Whittall of West Islip, NY, and her two cherished grandchildren who were the light of her life, Matthew, and Benjamin Whittall. Additionally, Barbara leaves behind two loving sisters, Ginny Geyer of East Meadow, NY, and Elaine (Michael) Thyberg of Blue Point, NY and her brother, Frank (Diane) Peterson of West Babylon, NY. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom she adored.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was pre-deceased by her sister, Carol Peterson, her brother, Arthur Peterson, and her brother-in-law, Charlie Geyer.

Family and Friends are invited to gather on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at Robertaccio Funeral Home, 85 Medford Ave, Patchogue, NY. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. at Robertaccio Funeral Home.
