Sadly, we have learned of the passing of Charles J. Hynes, Class of 1963 and a Sayville High football coach on April 16, 2023.

Charles J. Hynes, 77, a 65-year resident of Sayville, NY, died on Sunday, April 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. Charlie graduated from Sayville High School and went on to serve as a Military Policeman in the US Army. He worked for ENVIPCO for many years. In his free time, Charlie was an avid boater and fisherman, was a life member of the Oakdale Sportsman’s Club. He loved spending time at his homes in Ocean Beach, Fire Island and Cocoa Beach, Florida. He helped to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and ran an annual golf outing for their benefit for 25 years, alongside his good friend Scott McGorty. He was an avid football fan.
He coached football for many years at LaSalle Military Academy, St. John the Baptist High School and at Sayville Middle School.
Mr. Hynes is survived by his wife, Adrianne “Adie”, his children, Kerrin Meier and her husband Matthew of West Sayville and Charles M. Hynes, two granddaughters, Abigail and Brynlee, his two brothers, Joseph and his wife Linda of Sayville and Walter of Bohemia, several nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.
Friends and relatives will gather on Thursday, April 20th, 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 21st at 11:15 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church in Sayville and a private cremation will follow.
