A message to Sayville Alumni.
David McHugh here – class of ’59.
As the clock ticks, thoughts wander to the past.
Sayville HS was such an important “coming of age” experience.
I wish I was more awake to my life back then, but as we all learn, it takes a life to build a life. I believe I’m here now. Thank you for all your generous work in keeping so many memories alive for so many who have passed through the doors of SHS.
For any who might be interested, I have a website: davidmchugh.com, which is a compilation of my life’s work in many areas, including scoring films in Hollywood, heading a grad program at the U. of NC School of the Arts, 3 children, 4 grandkids, currently living in Co. Kerry, IE, and enjoying a wonderful life. Here’s a recent poem I wrote:
Dad and Me On the Couch
If I could I’d invite dad to sit with me on my couch We’d have a laugh at the “this and that” Nothing to say of importance Words a habit to dismiss the silence Our laughter born of the joy of being with each other We could mention when the pigeon dropped a load on his hat that Sunday morning after church When he became old I told him I was going to miss him when he passed on He laughed and said, “Ahh, don’t fuss over it, son, You’re right behind me”.
Cheers,
David
