Tom Johnson Class of 1973

Lieutenant Tom Johnson

I completed my education at Sayville High School in 1973 and promptly enlisted in the Navy, embarking on a 25-year journey.

I concluded my service as a Lieutenant in 1998, having advanced through the ranks from E-1 to E-8 as an enlisted member and from 01E to 03E as a commissioned officer.

Following my retirement from the Navy, I took on roles as a defense contractor with BAE Systems and Booz Allen Hamilton, and later served as a civilian employee for the Army in Aberdeen, Maryland.

After retiring from full-time employment in 2016, I relocated to Willards, MD, just outside Ocean City, where I have been enjoying the tranquility of country living.

The group photograph taken at my Navy retirement includes my son Jeremiah, sisters Michele, Maureen, and Maryellen, my mother, and my daughter Kelly.

Every day is truly Veterans Day when we consider the lasting impact of their sacrifices. While November 11th serves as a reminder, the courage and commitment of veterans deserve our recognition year-round. Their service has shaped our freedom and security, and it’s a call to honor them not just with words, but with continued support and gratitude every day.

At Sayville Alumni,
every day, is Veterans Day!
