“Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend”

Carol Ann Peterson, 72 of Orange, CT (formerly of Hopewell Junction and Hyde Park, NY) passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous fought battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Bayshore, NY on August 24, 1951, and raised in Sayville, NY she was a daughter of the late Francis “Frank” and Marie Virginia “Ginny” (nee Cowhig) Peterson.   She was a 1970 graduate of Sayville High School and then went on to study at Suffolk Community College.

In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Peterson and her brother-in-law, Charlie Geyer.  She is survived by her two children who will miss her dearly: Kristen Bailey Coletta (husband, Luciano) of West Haven, CT; and Daniel Bailey (wife, Barbara) of Charleston, SC; and her three cherished grandchildren:  Gavin Bailey, Declan Bailey and Alessia Coletta.  Additionally, she leaves behind her three loving sisters:  Ginny Geyer, of East Meadow, NY; Barbara Whittall of East Patchogue, NY; Elaine Thyberg (husband, Michael) of Blue Point, NY; and her brother, Frank Peterson (wife, Diane) of West Babylon, NY.  Carol is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Carol’s greatest joy was spending time with family and her closest friends.  In addition to her family and closest friends, Carol loved many things throughout her life.  She treasured her yearly trip to her favorite small beach town of Sebastian, FL, she loved family vacations in Schroon Lake and Saranac Lake, scenic drives along the CT shoreline, and leaf-peeping in the fall.   She also enjoyed walking outdoors, she was an avid reader and found solace and inspiration within pages of countless books of various genres, relaxing pitter-patter sounds of the rain falling outside, she had a love for music and dance, she enjoyed playing card games such as UNO and Gin, and always loved Aunt Marion’s Pecan Pie.

Carol was a person of great faith.  It was her faith that was her everlasting source of strength throughout her debilitating illness that she faced with dignity and grace.  Thank you, Mom, for guiding us with your inspiring example of courage, faith, compassion, resilience, and love.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Maplewood at Orange caregivers and support staff and Constellation Health Services for the compassion and dignity shown to Carol.

Family and Friends are invited to go directly to St. Mary’s Church of St. John Bosco Parish, 731 Main Street, Branford on Friday morning, November 17th at 11:00 to attend a Mass of Christian Burial.
